Creating a dedicated, online home for this new sort of award makes it quick and easy to boost people’s confidence and employability with credible, respected recognition that helps their performance to shine above the rest.
Commendations work both locally and nationally, giving learners and tutors the inspiration and motivation to go the extra mile with their studies and teaching. The awards count as stepping stones to City & Guilds Medals of Excellence.
The online awards also help to raise the profiles of training centres and differentiate the value of their teaching from competitors, which in turn increases learner recruitment and retention.
The customer-facing side of the site showcases each award winner, giving people instant, public recognition and publicity.
Behind the scenes, the back-end of the site has four levels of access to match the organisation’s structure, plus a database of all 3,500 participating education centres, with search filters to look for specific criteria. City & Guilds staff can invite new centres and participants via an automated email system, with easy access to a library of branded assets for users to download and use.
Commendations allow learners to earn awards up to three times throughout the year, with an annual overall award voted on by the public.
To develop and trial the site, we used a new wireframing tool, Axure, which allowed us to build a working prototype that simulated the functionality of the site without the need for coding. This meant the client was able to experience the depth and journey of the site firsthand. This approach made the design, development and approval stages much easier and quicker than working with traditional static wireframe documents.
