Orbit is one of the UKâs largest housing associations, employing over 1,200 staff and providing homes for more than 100,000 people across the Midlands and southern England. The group asked us to update its values, employer brand and colleague behaviours to help build a socially driven and commercially minded culture.
The project coincided with the appointment of a new chief executive and the group publishing its five-year strategic plan up to 2030. To sharpen its employee value proposition, the client wanted to:




We ran a series of in-person and online workshops with colleagues across the business, and checked how the outcomes aligned with Orbitâs Customer Commitments and overall brand values.
The overarching theme that emerged was how Orbit represents ârewarding work â redefinedâ. The new values and employer brand demonstrate that Orbit:
We then developed three core behaviours to mirror the individualâs role in creating a culture that offers this value. These were focused on everyone demonstrating how they bring the values to life.

Roll out of the project has reinforced the need for everyone involved in the business to be respectful, ambitious and constantly learning. This has strengthened the groupâs position in a competitive job market, and signalled to customers how their priorities match those of the people who work there.
