#ShineALight

Chief executive of Grand Union Housing Group Aileen Evans asked us to help brand and promote her chosen charity project as President of the Institute of Housing in 2019-20. She wanted to make a difference in the world of mental health, so we helped her to name, design and launched her #ShineALight campaign in partnership with the charity Mind. It aimed to encourage to housing organisations to do more about positive mental health for both staff and customers.

Aileen chose this topic because housing professionals often work in stressful conditions, which can have a negative impact on their mental wellbeing. They also often work in isolated environments (sometimes with customers who are in crisis), and have limited opportunities to get appropriate support.

Working closely with Mind, housing organisations and residents, we helped Aileen and the Chartered Institute of Housing to produced two #ShineALight toolkits to help the housing sector better respond to mental health challenges.

Aileen, who had already implemented a wide range of workplace and workforce initiatives in her own organisation, said her decision to focus on mental health and wellbeing during her presidency of CIH was an opportunity “to give something back to the profession and the people that supported me in my career.”

We gave our support free of charge to create the campaign’s name and visual brand.

As professionals, we need to equip ourselves to be mental-health aware, because if we are unwell - if we can’t bring compassion into what we do - then we can risk failing people from whom everyone else may have already walked away. Creative Bridge gave invaluable support to my campaign to shine a light on mental health in housing. Talking about this problem, enables us all to be part of the solution
