Predicting the future at #socmed12

The future is digital, and you can’t ignore the turtle in the room…

Delegates at yesterday’s #socmed12 event in Birmingham were invited to see how social and digital media technologies are changing, and the potential implications for UK housing professionals.

The event, organised by the Chartered Institute of Housing and also sponsored by Orbit Group and our agency, was the second of its kind following a sell-out date in September 2012.

One of the sessions, led by our very own Rob Newell and Nick Moffatt, looked at how augmented reality is set to revolutionise engagement in housing. This included an impromptu appearance from a 3D turtle to show how the technology works.

Other highlights from the event included:

  • Nick Atkin from Halton Trust on the social media revolution
  • Paul Taylor from Bromford Group on the mobile web, digital collaboration and crowd sourcing
  • Tom Gaskin on Facebook for community engagement.

There was also a lively debate about hashtags and getting behind the #ukhousing cause.

The event sparked a Twitter reach of nearly 19,000.
